2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 2 Elimination Final – Raiders v Birdwood

2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 2 Elimination Final – Raiders v Birdwood. This is another first for HFL Media, with Sunday HFL Finals Footy being broadcast LIVE for the first time.

The home of the Rams turned on sensational weather for this clash, and the Dream Maker was in the box seat to enjoy a hard fought battle between the Roosters and the Raiders. It wasn’t just the ground that Nairne Bremer provided: we also managed to secure the services of the Rams’ A Grade coach, Daniel Lackenby. Lackers brought great perspective to this game, and was able to get into the hard to reach places around Thomas International Foods Oval.

It was a close match, with intensity shown by both sides from the opening bounce to the final siren. Relive this battle royale right here.

2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 2 Qualifying Final – Ironbank v Nairne Bremer

2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 2 Qualifying Final – Ironbank v Nairne Bremer. This was another first for HFL Media as the Dream Maker went to Kersbrook to call the 2018 Division 2 Qualifying Final between Ironbank and Nairne Bremer. Kersy turned on magnificent weather for this clash, and the Dream Maker was in the box seat to enjoy some footy at the HFL’s northernmost outpost.

The Thunderers have enjoyed a strong season this year, and are shaping up as a real contender for the 2018 Div 2 Premiership. It was this form that took the Thunderers to a convincing win over the Rams.

For this match, we were privileged to have the Bridgewater-Callington Raiders’ Grade A coach, Rian Nelson. We continue to be impressed with the calibre of commentating talent waiting in the wings of the HFL, and Rian is no exception. Hear him (and the usual gang) right here.

hillsfooty.com and Lofty brings you more finals action than ever before, with a total of 8 HFL finals games being called by our award-winning Call Of The Wild Team during the 2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League finals series.

2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 1, Round 17 – Mount Barker v Hahndorf

It was a big day at Howard Lane in the penultimate round of the 2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 1. This top of the table clash was always going to be interesting, with added spice coming from Hahndorf’s Darcy “Hurricane” Hourigan kicking his 100th goal for the season.  Hurricane didn’t stop there; he kicked 5 goals in total to bring this year’s tally to 103.

This performance seemed to be the gee-up that the Magpies needed to take control of this match.  With a depleted side, and some unpredictable weather, the Roos had their work cut out for them.  Hear this match again, right here.

Both of these teams are in the 2018 HFL Division1 Finals series, but when will they meet?  And where?  Keep following hillsfooty.com and listening to our coverage on HFL Media to find out.  Thanks to Hahndorf Football Club for the pic.

HFL’s Call Of The Wild gets a gong at the 2018 SACBA Bilby Awards!

The HFL Media crew hasn’t even finished its first season of HFL coverage yet, and we’re already kicking goals. Well, this may be more of a behind, but we’re still on the scoreboard.

Our community broadcasting partner, Lofty Community Media, won the runner-up award at the 2018 SACBA Bilby Awards for Best Sports Coverage. SACBA, or the South Australian Community Broadcasters Association, is the peak body for community broadcasting in SA. There are over 30 member organisations in SACBA, so to come second in our first year is a huge honour.

With Lofty firing up its FM transmissions later this year, maybe we’ll kick a bit straighter next year as live and local footy returns to the airwaves in 2019.

Collecting this Bilby is Tony “The Colonel” Sander. The rest of the HFL Media crew let him out of the techno kitchen for a bit to go and receive the prize. Note The Colonel’s winter coat, which is at its most bushy at this time of year.

2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 2, Round 16 – Kangarilla v Macclesfield

We’re getting to the pointy end of the 2018 Season, and Div 2 Round 16 took us to Unity Roofing Oval. Depending on who you talk to, that’s either in Kangarilla or Yaroona. Pistols let The Colonel out of the kitchen and he had a crack at cooking up some special boundary rider commentary.

Both Kangarilla and Macclesfield are within striking range of the Final 5, meaning that this match could mean the difference between an easier ride to the finals series or a really hard slog to get there. Maccy’s captain, Denis Iljcesen, was back in the number 19 guernsey after being rubbed out by a knee injury early in the season. Could Iljo’s return to full forward mark Maccy’s resurgence as we get closer to the finals?

This week, we’ve got something a bit different. Not only do we have the usual audio commentary of The Call Of The Wild, but HFL Media is experimenting with video. Let us know what you think of this week’s Call Of The Wild video on the HFL Media – hillsfooty.com Facebook page.

Interview – Brenton Smith (Macclesfield)

A while back, Pistols travelled down to Strath to catch up with HFL and GSL legend, Brenton Smith. Across two leagues, Brenton has played for two clubs (Macclesfield and Strathalbyn), won 4 Mail Medals, and has also played in premiership winning teams in both leagues.

Brenton’s footy journey started in Maccy in the late 1950s, so – as you’d expect – this is a longer interview than usual as there is so much ground to cover. Brenton stuck with Pistols for around 40 minutes, and we reckon you’ll stick around for the whole 40 minutes too.
