Month: September 2018

Congrats to Adam Houlahan, 2018 Division 2 A Grade Mail Medalist!

For the first time ever, the HFL’s night of nights was live streamed via hillsfooty.com and Lofty. Around 260 guests including players, club officials, sponsors and other VIPs were on hand to witness the Mail Medal count for 2018.

The race for the Division 2 A Grade medal was one of the closest in years. It wasn’t until the final round when Gumeracha’s Brendon Moon couldn’t quite get the votes needed to tie up first place, settling for equal second with Kersbrook’s Rob Nicholson on 21 votes a piece. In the end, the Raiders’ Adam Houlahan won the gong with 22 votes after 18 rounds and a very happy Mum listening to the stream at home. Congrats, Adam! Thanks to the Bridgewater-Callington Raiders for the pic.

Please note that there is a bit of an issue with the sound quality near the business end of the count … seems like the excitement in the Old Mill was a little too much for The Colonel to contain, and the audio got a little overcooked around the 29 minute mark. He’s scraped off the burnt bits and we reckon the end result is pretty OK.

2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 1 Elimination Final – Echunga v Blackwood

2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 1 Elimination Final – Echunga v Blackwood, live from Able Storage Oval, Mount Barker, Sunday 2 September @ 2pm.

Another close, hard fought game between two quality sides. Reigning premiers Blackwood have been consistent performers all year. Echunga’s journey to the Finals hasn’t been quite as smooth as Blackwood’s due to a bout of early season injuries, but they regained strength at the pointy end of the season.

This match was pretty even all the way through, with a clear result only becoming apparent as the fourth quarter unfolded. Overall, both sides can hold their heads up high for digging deep when it mattered. Congrats to Blackwood, who move into the 1st Semi Final. Commiserations to Echunga, who’ll no doubt build on their strong finish to 2018 to carry them into 2019.

Thanks to Fi Zevenboom for the pic. We still don’t know how she does it, but Fi’s shots are always top notch … and speaking of top notch visuals, you can watch this match, as well as listen. Could this be a hint of things to come next year?

2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 2 2nd Semi Final – Kersbrook v Ironbank

2018 Mortgage Choice Hills Football League Division 2 2nd Semi Final – Kersbrook v Ironbank. Live from Birdwood Oval, Saturday 1 September 2018 @ 2pm. The Dream Maker headed out to the Velodrome for the first time this season and saw some quality footy being played by Div 2’s top A Grade teams. Ironbank’s exciting young team continued to impress, but was it good enough to beat the Bookers and their four solid quarters of high intensity football?

Speaking of high intensity, our own Rob Shearwood put forth some analysis at the end of the match. For those not in the know, Rob is a former football manager at the club. He has insight that few others have, and is worth listening to, so stick around until the very end.

As an added bonus, Collo rejoined the team after doing a quick lap of Australia. Welcome back, Collo!
